Ashwagandha: The Gateway Adaptogen
It's no doubt 2017 will be dubbed 'The Year of Adaptogens". At least in my own little geeky-wellness brain because adaptogens entered my life this year and I'M IN LOVE. Medicinal Mushrooms + Adaptogens have taken over the world of wellness as of late and for good reason. They are incredible holistic forms of healing that the majority (myself included) has missed out on until recently. These healing herbs have been used for way longer than they've been trendy but thankfully now, the longtime foodies + wellness junkies have led us to them.
Adaptogens are basically super nutritious herbs that help your body with it's specific unique stressors. They're are tons of different adaptogens but don't overwhelm yourself trying to accumulate them all at once. Start with the one that will gently lead you into the world of medicinal herbs.. ashwagandha. Ergo, why I think of it as the GATEWAY ADAPTOGEN.
- Boosts immune system
- Reduces inflammation
- Improves stamina
- Supports emotional balance + brain function
- Reduces anxiety
- Stabalizes blood sugar
How to use:
- Hot Tea/Coffee
- Hot water
- Warmed Almond Milk
- Evening Elixirs
- Raw Desserts
I ALWAYS use it when I make coffee. Even use up to 1 1/2 tsp in something like my Coconut 'No Bake' Fat bites.
Adaptogens was a weird word for me to learn. I heard the term 'reishi' from insta-queen, shutthekaleup and wrote it off as some type of voodoo I didn't need anything to do with. Until I got curious enough to investigate it myself. Researching turned that "voodoo" into a must have "essential". I didn't know where to start but I knew I was trying to heal a hormonal imbalance so I started with one that would aid in that. And soothe some anxiety.. yeah, that sounds good too. Enter Ashwagandha. If you're trying to figure out where to first begin your adaptogenic-voodoo-journey; I will point you towards my beloved Ashwagandha.
Disclaimer: As always, I am not a doctor or scientist. I do my own research and am sharing both that and my personal experiences.
