Femme Friday: Angie
Generous, grateful, loving, selfless, intelligent, bomb-A cook and the mother-in-law I aim to be someday.. we're celebrating Angie Connally for this Femme Friday. She embodies a beautiful example of what it is to be a bold, female entrepreneur and go after your passions. I have her to thank for ever going down the oily road. Going down that path opened my eyes to another level of holistic health.
Have you ever met someone that is so in love with what they do that it just bursts out of them? That's exactly Angie and her essential oils.
Whether you know a little or a lot about essential oils, you will surely benefit from this what Angie shares.
1. How did you first become interested in essential oils?
When our first grandchild, Raegan, was born in March I really started thinking about all the toxins in our personal care and cleaning products we use in our homes. I wanted to support our family’s health and wellness by creating the best environment as possible. I became interested in essential oils in June 2013 when I was introduced to them by a friend.
Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years. There are more than 200 Scriptures in the Bible where oils were used. The Bible is God’s love story to us and within its pages it shows how we can stay well and that includes using essential oils. God who created us knows us best and made provision long before we were born.
As I begin to learn more about the benefits of essential oils I realized they are God’s gift to us and they have the ability to assist us in supporting all of our body systems. I became more intentional in trying to remove toxins from our diet, cleaning up our controlled environment and being more aware of the personal care products we were applying to our skin on a daily basis.
I was able to replace many OTC health products with healthy natural alternatives such as essential oils. I replaced our cleaning products with Thieves Cleaner. I educated myself about fluoride, deodorants, drinking water, hair products, skin products and more and just started taking baby steps by eliminating and replacing them with natural pure products.
By being more intentional and educating ourselves we can keep our body above the wellness line. And who wants to live below that line? Not I!
2. Have you always taken a holistic approach to life?
No, I’ve not always taken a holistic approach and I sure wish I had. But going forward now that I know I can and will do better. And in doing so, my children and grandchildren and future generations will know and do better.
3. Were you skeptical of using them at any point?
At first I was, because I only knew one friend who was using essential oils, but it was short lived. I just knew in my heart and felt like there was something more to them. Some people said I was a “snake oil salesman” or “using hippie oils”, but I knew better.
4. If so, when did they “prove” their power to you?
As soon as I opened my Young Living Starter Kit! That evening I plugged in the diffuser and put 3-4 drops of Peace and Calming oil in it. My husband, son and I were all in the family room on the computer, reading a book, and our son was playing a video game. Within a few minutes all of us became so relaxed andI said, “Well, I know it’s early but I think I’m going to call it a night.”(That was unusual for me, I am a night owl) My husband said, “I am pretty much sleepy myself.” (I didn’t pay it much attention because my husband can sleep anytime, anywhere. LOL) However, when my son, who was in college at the time, said, “Man, I am so sleepy.” (And he wasn’t even aware the oils and diffuser were going because he was in some type of combat video game, LOL) It really got me to thinking! I was like, oh my gosh, these things really work! The oil had caused our environment to become more relaxed and calm and we were ready to call it a night soon after!
I had suffered from bad sleep habits for many years and was on a regiment from a physician which was helping some. However, I wanted a more natural way to assist my body with a better sleep pattern and I soon realized these essential oils helped with that, as well as supporting my entire body with raising wellness in body functions.
5. What is your favorite oil and use for it?
Oh gosh, I have so many favorites! But there is one I have never run out of, Young Living’s Lavender Essential Oil. Lavender is known as the Swiss Army Knife because it is good for just about anything. It iscalming, soothing, relaxing, provides emotional support, promotes a healthy sleep pattern and is great for skin support, just to name a few. I diffuse it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!
I choose to diffuse Lavender because when inhaling essential oils, their tiny molecules instantly travel up the nose to the olfactory bulb which transmits impulses to the amygdala, hypothalamus, hippocampus and other areas of the brain. Our body responds by releasing endorphins and serotonin which causes relaxation and calming. This helps me get a great night’s rest and my body loves me for it.
6. What has being a female entrepreneur meant for you?
Being a female entrepreneur is empowering. I feel accomplished but not finished by no means. It has built my confidence and I know I can and will continue to be successful in my journey. It’s changed my outlook because decades ago it seems that there were more men entrepreneurs than women but that’s just not the case any longer. Women can be and are successful and have proven time and time again that they can build billion dollar businesses. I would encourage woman everywhere, dream BIG, and go for it. You can do it! You are a success. You are a somebody.
I am so passionate about Young Living essential oils and I know that I know, that I know, that I know, they work! I want the best for my family, I want them to feel good, to keep their body above the wellness line, I want them to live long, healthy lives.
It is a great blessing to know that I am able to change the lives of my family and extended family, friends, and even people I don’t know by educating them on essential oils and getting toxins out of their homes. It feels good to know that because of God’s blessings on my business, I am a huge contributor to my family’s finances and also have more freedom and abundance to be able to bless others, which is truly my heart.
7. Can you explain a little why you chose Young Living essential oils and what to look for in buying/choosing an essential oil?
I chose Young Living Essential Oils primarily because of its Seed to Seal commitment. For more than two decades they have committed to establishing and maintaining the ultimate leading standard in essential oil products Through their proprietary Seed to Seal production process, (Seed, Cultivating, Harvesting, Distilling, Bottling) they produce the best, most authentic essential oils in the world. There are no synthetics, contaminants, cheap fillers, and unethical production practices. All their weeding is painstakingly done by hand and insect/pest removal is done by hand or using their own essential oils on the plants. You can check out their Seed to Seal website here: www.seedtoseal.com.
Young Living even welcomes you to visit their farms. Personally, I have visited the Mona Lavender Farm in Mona, Utah and will visit two more farms just this next week, the Highland Flat Farm in Naples, Idaho and St. Maries Farm in St. Maries, Idaho. Anyone can go to any of their farms and plant plants, observe the distillation process, harvest plants, and visit their laboratories and packing facilities to verify their standards.
There are many quality of essential oils. From low to high (1) synthetic oils made in a laboratory, (2) altered oils (fragrant grade) is a low quality oil that contains chemicals and solvents, (3) natural organic oils which can have chemicals, and finally (4) authentic essential oils are therapeutic quality, 100% pure and unadulterated, first distillation oils from Young Living.
It makes me say hmmmmmm, when someone purchases, for example, a bottle of peppermint oil from a vitamin shop, health food store, etc. and on the peppermint oil bottle it says NOT FOR INTERNAL USE or DO NOT INGEST.
We know we can plant a peppermint plant and eat its leaves or use it in a glass of tea or water for a refreshing taste. We can dip the peppermint leaf in chocolate for a healthy sweet to eat. So I have to ask myself, “What is in that bottle of peppermint that is so bad I can’t ingest it?” It’s because there are synthetics added to it.
And remember, our skin is our biggest organ. What you put ON your skin goes IN your body! Why on earth would anyone settle for essential oils that have been cut with synthetics, solvents, and the like when you can get the best oils on the planet?
Did you know in order to be labeled as PURE oil, an essential oil only needs a small percentage of pure essential oil in it?
But with Young Living essential oils, the entire bottle is 100% pure, unadulterated essential oil, no synthetics, no pesticides ever used, no solvents. That is the reason I choose Young Living over other essential oil companies.
8. What is the best source for learning more about essential oils?
Of course, pray and ask God for wisdom. He will give it to you.
My number one go-to is the “Essential Oil Desk Reference” from Life Science Publishing. They also make a smaller version, “Essential Oil Pocket Reference”. If you’re interested, just let me know, I can get you one at a discounted price because I buy in bulk.
I learned a ton about essential oils by reading, “Healing Oils Of The Bible”, by Dr. David Stewart. I highly recommend that book.
“Gentle Babies - Essential Oils and Natural Remedies for Pregnancy, Childbirth, Infants, and Children”, written by Debra Raybern is a great book to help with using oils with infants and children.
“Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils”, written by Carolyn L. Mein, DC is a great book to help with emotional health.
“Lucy Libido Says There’s An Oil For That”, is a eye opening book about using oils between the sheets.
All of these books are available on Amazon; linked below.
There are many Facebook groups available. I would love to have you a part of my team and see your family stay above the wellness line using essential oils. If you’d like to learn more about the oils, let me know and I’ll add you to a couple of my favorite groups.
